It doesn’t only take a good translation agency to come up with an excellent translation service; it also takes a person doing the writing. But how would you know who’s the best copywriter for your project?
Although there are no specific qualifications that every top-notch writer has, there are key factors that matter. Here are some of them:
Experience. It takes a great deal of experience to become a good copywriter. How many years have they been writing? What kind of projects have they handled so far?
How good is their command of the language? Do you plan to use a formal or informal tone for your text? Will it be written from scratch, or translated from another language? These are just some of the questions you need to address.
Skill and competence. For every project, you should find a writer who’s well versed in that field or line of work. If your copy is about selling fashion articles, for example, then look for someone whose expertise is related to that industry
Style preference. There are different styles of writing, and each one has its own flavor. Find someone who’s capable of delivering the tone you want for your text
Availability. This one matters especially if you need help immediately or on a tight schedule.
The writer should be reachable by phone, email, or chat. They should also be able to provide samples of their previous works, and perhaps a client list. Make sure that you can trust the person or company doing the writing. You want to deal with someone who’s honest and reliable, not just because it’s important for your peace of mind, but also for future projects
The quality of the work. According to the National Association of Writers, there are six factors that can determine how good a piece of writing is:
Coherence. Does it make sense? Is it well-organized?
Clarity. Are the sentences short and easy to understand? Do they use simple words? Can you easily visualize what’s being described? Are there enough details to help you get an idea about the subject matter at hand?
Concision. Are there unnecessary words or phrases that should be edited out? How much detail is necessary for your readers to gain a better understanding of the topic at hand? Be careful with this one; too little information might render your copy useless, but so will too much.
Logic. Does the copy follow a logical sequence?
Accuracy and fluency. Can you read through it without stumbling over any words, phrases, or sentences? There should be no glitches whatsoever. If this is your first time dealing with a certain company, look for samples of their work to see whether they’re up to par or not
The bottom line: always consult with experts when you need help writing and translating texts. Even though it’s something that we do every day in our jobs, we don’t have the necessary expertise when it comes to delivering quality copywriting services.
